Supercars Eseries adds De Silvestro as Rd3 wildcard
In lockdown at her home in Zurich, De Silvestro says she’s looking forward to returning to the series she left at the end of the 2019 season.
“I’m excited. I enjoyed every minute in Supercars and to return for the Eseries will be a lot of fun.
“I’ve been keeping myself busy with online racing for Porsche in the virtual Mobil 1 Supercup over the past few weeks, so I’m confident.”
Swiss-born De Silvestro will run the #78 previously used on her Nissan Altima, but with no Nissans on the grid in 2020, the 31-year-old is using an online poll on the Supercars Facebook page to let the fans decide is she should race a virtual Ford Mustang or Holden Commodore in Round 3’s online race at Mount Panorama.
The only female to have raced full-time in Supercars, Swiss-born De Silvestro was part of the Kelly Racing/Nissan Motorsport team from 2017 to 2019. When Kelly Racing downsized the team from four drivers to two at the end of 2019 (following Nissan’s withdrawal from the series a year earlier), De Silvestro lost her seat and retuned to Europe, securing a place with Porsche’s Formula E squad for 2020.
De Silvestro previously raced in Formula E in the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons and has years of open-wheeler experience before that, including Formula Renault, Formula BMW, the Atlantic Championship (where she finished third overall in 2009), IndyCar and five starts in the Indianapolis 500.
In her three seasons in Supercars with Nissan Motorsport racing the Harvey Norman-sponsored Nissan Altima, De Silvestro’s best race result was seventh at Pukekohe in 2019. Partnered with Renee Gracie, David Russell and Alex Rullo in five starts at Bathurst, her best finish was 13th, also in 2019.
Qualifying for the third round of the BP Supercars All Stars Eseries will begin on Wednesday, 22 April, at 6:00PM AEST and will be broadcast exclusively on Fox Sports 506.
From 7:00PM, racing will be broadcast live on Fox Sports 506, Kayo, Sky Sports (NZ) and 10 Play. Online fans from around the globe can watch races via the Supercars Facebook Page and Supercars’ Teams Facebook Pages.
