The Hustle - Roddin’ Across the USA

This August, Dean Vannutini and the Rogue Rod Shop will be doing exactly that, with Dean leading the way in his award-winning ’34 Ford “Foosed” Coupe (pictured).

Following past trips to the US, experiencing these major events, attending cruise nights and visiting some of America’s best hot rod and custom car builders, Dean’s enjoyed the experience, but always felt there was something missing. ‘Wouldn’t it be better,’ he thought ‘for me and other Aussies to attend these events in our own cars – and show the Yanks what we’ve got!’

That set the wheels in motion, leading Dean to create the across-America 2019 hot rod tour that he’s calling ‘The Hustle’.

Since he started spreading the word this past December, the response has been amazing, with rodders already committing to take their cars over and another 80 Aussies signing up to follow the convoy in hire cars.

The 2,800 mile, 5 week trek starts at the 50th Street Rod Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky, this August. The Hustle will then head west to take in events like Bonneville Speedweek in Utah and Hot August Nights in Nevada.

Shop tours are planned, too, including visits to Roy Brizio Street Rods and Sacramento Vintage Ford in California, but the itinerary will be fairly open, with more events, venues and attractions to be added, while accommodation will be sourced on the fly in what Dean calls true hot rod style!

If The Hustle sounds like a trip you’d like to be a part of, Dean advises you start making preparations now, especially if you plan on taking your own rod, as vehicles will need to be on the water by early June (probably no later than 10 June) in order to make the August start date in Kentucky.
