Twiggy's Miura to be auctioned at 2012 Motorclassica
While '60s fashions may have been questionable, Lesley "Twiggy" Lawson's taste in cars was exceptional, if this 1969 Lamborghini Miura P400 S is any indication! One of the most desirable Lamborghinis produced, the Marcello Gandini-designed Miura also regularly features at the top end of "Most Beautiful Car" lists.
According to the accompanying paperwork from Automobili Lamborghini, the car "was indeed sold by us to Twiggy through our U.K. Importers in 1969". It was delivered to Lawson, the Daily Express (UK)'s "Face of '66" in her chosen colour scheme of lime green with orange & white stripes. Automobili Lamborghini documentation indicates the car was white originally, before being repainted at the factory.
This factory right hand drive Miura S has been with its current owner since 1978 and not offered for sale during this time. In wonderful original condition, it's inclusion in the Motorclassica auction catalogue will represent the first time it has been offered to the market in 34 years.
Paul Mathers, Event Director of RACV Motorclassica said, "We are incredibly pleased to have this beautiful car consigned to our Collector Car Auction. This important vehicle has real international appeal and is of a calibre that epitomises what Motorclassica is really all about"
Further announcements of other vehicles to be included in the 2012 Collector Car Auction, and details of the sale itself will be released over the coming months.
Now in its third year, RACV Motorclassica will again be held at the Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne, on 26th -28th October 2012, and will feature special tributes to Sir Jack Brabham, the 100th Anniversary of the Victorian Motor Show and the 60th Anniversary of Lotus. The climax of the event will be the Collector Car Auction on Sunday 28th.
