Vic Hot Rod Show returns in 2024
After a delay of more than four years due to COVID and other issues, the Victorian Hot Rod Show is set to make a return, with the Victorian Hot Rod Association (VHRA) confirming that an all-new show will take place in 2024.
A number of major changes have been enacted for the first Vic Hot Rod Show since 2020. Firstly, the show will be held in August, instead of its usual slot around the Australia Day weekend in January. Secondly, the show is moving from its traditional home at the Royal Exhibition Building to the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds in Ascot Vale. The show will remain undercover, with the fully enclosed Exhibition Pavilion at the showgrounds to be the hub for the display vehicles and trade stands.
Finally, the show will be open to any vehicle that qualifies under the club plate scheme with VicRoads. This is an extension of the “Hot Rods and Cool Rides” theme of the most recent shows, where stock classics, street machines and other customs were accepted alongside traditional hot rods.
VHRA membership will also expand to include club plate vehicles, with a focus on American and Australian muscle cars, Aussie-made classics and other marques that meet VHRA standards of build and presentation quality.
The 2024 Victorian Hot Rod Show will be held on the weekend of 10-11 August, 2024, with entry from 10:00AM to 5:00PM each day. For display vehicles, entry fees are $50 per vehicle for cars and motorcycles and $15 per vehicle for mini-rods and bicycles. As with VHRA membership rules, display vehicles must be of an acceptable build quality and presentation standard to be eligible for entry, as determined by the VHRA’s Rod Show committee.
Judging will consist of a Top 10 Shootout for cars and motorcycles, with a Top 5 Shootout for mini-rods and bicycles.
Public entry is $20.00 per person each day, with discounts for VHRA members and free admission for Under 18s. For club stands and trade stands, contact the VHRA.
