Worongary Muscle Car Expo
The number of vehicles displayed at June's Expo increased 240 per cent from last year's debut event, with over 170 cars on display.
Good weather conditions allowed the Ford GT coupes, Monaros, GTR Toranas, Camaros, utes and Mustangs to really shine! The organizers were very pleased with the number and variety of vehicles on show, as well as the local clubs who supported the event, including the GTR and Torana Club, Scarab Car Club, Pony Club, Gold Coast Muscle Car Club and Seven82Motors.
The Surfers Paradise Drag Racing Association turned up with 12 vehicles including full drag cars, junior drag cars and drag bikes. The club introduced many people to the amazing horsepower of these vehicles via the roar of their engines. The crowd couldn't get enough!
The Association took out the Most Well Presented Club award as well as the People's Choice award for one of their drag bikes. The local Gold Coast Fire and Rescue department came along and gave a fantastic display simulating a rescue situation by turning a '90 model Ford Laser into a convertible with the jaws of life.
This wild, Chev-powered Gemini was one of a dozen vehicles presented by the Surfer's Paradise Drag Racing Association Iron Horse Harley Rides were there with their sidecar, and there was a Jumping Castle and Sandwizard to keep the little ones amused. There were also lucky door prizes and lots of great raffle prizes.
The event also featured stalls for car memorabilia, security products and other goodies.
Such a high level of local community support ensured not only some much needed funds for Worongary State School, but also the return of the event for next year. Watch this space for details as the 2010 Gold Coast Worongary Muscle Car Expo draws closer.
Fords were well represented, with some very neat Aussie and American examples on show.
