This is an early “Phase 1” example of the iconic Austin-Healey 3000 MkIII BJ8, one of the rarest iterations of the “Big Healey,” finished in striking gloss black with a well-paired red interior. Built in 1964, it features the 2,912 cc straight-six engine fed by twin SU HD8 carburettors, delivering about 150 bhp, paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox. As a Phase 1 car, it retains the slimmer bodywork, smaller single front sidelights, and compact rear lamps, styling cues that make it a highly desirable example for Healey connoisseurs. The Healey was purchased by a prominent Canberra dealer and vendor in 1987 in Chicago, USA (sale document and photos in images, a RHD example), where the car remained until 1997 when the car was brought over to Canberra. The car has remained in the area since being owned by the vendor, who also conducted an extensive full ground-up restoration on the car, with significant money spent around 2016/2017 (some restoration photos included in images under the Mechanical heading).
