Seller's Description
This example was found in a hay shed near Corowa, N.S.W Little is known about its history.
The possibility is that there were at least two owners from the Albury area. During this time the car was reupholstered and spray painted. The car was then purchased by a classic car enthusiast in Geelong who then sold it to the present owner in May 2016.
At the time of purchase, the car was in need of a new engine and work on other mechanical problems. The sale of the Mercedes included an engine suitable as a replacement but had not been fitted.
A friend of the new owner recommended the car be restored by a specialist Mercedes Benz mechanic, Hans Stephan of Shepparton.
The arrival of the car at the workshop created great excitement. Hans had actually worked on this model Mercedes Benz while a motor mechanic apprentice in Germany. Hans lovingly replaced the old engine with a re-conditioned motor and attended to the other mechanical issues.
The present owner of the workshop couldn’t believe he was working on such a rare car, and learning more of his trade under the expert eye of the master.
The end result after many months of loving care, the 1951 Mercedes Benz ran like a dream.
Except for the typical loud diesel “engine knock" while idling.
The present owners have enjoyed many trips with other classic car enthusiasts along with a regular Sunday afternoon drive and picnic.
Rare opportunity and here for genuine sale.
