The 1967 Shelby GT500 that was the final, fateful target for the group of car thieves led by Randall ‘Memphis’ Raines (Nicolas Cage) in Gone in 60 Seconds has been reproduced in a multitude of ways since the movie’s release in 2000, but this example would have to be one of the best.
Fully Built, Fully Beaut
Based on a 1968 Mustang fastback, this Eleanor was rebuilt from the ground up. The powerplant is a Ford Pro Series Small Block 427 V8 that produces around 541hp and 519lb/ft (403kW and 703Nm). A single-belt serpentine kit runs all the ancillaries, with the driveline completed by a four-speed manual (with brand-new double plate clutch) and nine-inch diff.
Heavy duty suspension, with custom adjustable coilovers, plus sway bars front and rear, keep this Eleanor on the tarmac, while a modern Wilwood brake package handles the stopping.
Style Queen
Finished in the correct Pepper Grey, this Eleanor has what’s described as perfect panel gaps and excellent brightwork. She rolls on Shelby wheels, with a set of original PIAA fog lamps fitted, too.
Inside, a full retrim includes black leather seats, black headlining and black carpets. There’s also a Dakota Digital cruise control kit, AutoMeter gauges and a Kenwood sound system with Apple CarPlay to suit modern requirements.
For comfort and safety, there are front and rear cameras, Vintage Air air conditioning, power steering and a security alarm.
