If you're not bowled over by the looks – and you almost certainly will be – then the driving experience should be enough to convince you of the MGA's pedigree. Even in lower-powered 1500 form, the MGA is a perky performer.
The MGA was a new chapter in MG history. It was designed, engineered and built in the tradition that has made its predecessors the favourite of true world sports-cars the world over. It was the smartest, safest, fastest MG ever engineered and to find one in such beautiful condition sixty years on, is an opportunity not to be missed for the serious collector and true enthusiast alike.

Manufactured by The MG Car Company Ltd Abingdon-on-Thames, England, this is Car #: HDK 2346850 It was fully restored around 2015 with most parts imported from Moss Europe Ltd The bodywork is still in very good order today and so is the paintwork. Interior is leather and in beautiful order. The 1500cc motor had work done to it in 2016 by Paramount Engineering in Silverdale. Four speed manual transmission. All instruments are original and function well. Car is pretty much perfect - it runs and drives exceptionally well We think of it as a Stunning Car, that no doubt has had endless $$$ spent on it. The harsh reality is that it would take more than $100K to restore a car in this condition today, making this car very good value for money. What it does exceedingly well for a car of this vintage is ride and handle with real aplomb, which makes it a classic that you really can use every day, even for the longest of journeys. A combination of independent front suspension and rack and pinion steering provide accurate control, and even with a live rear axle ride comfort is more than acceptable. There isn’t much body roll either which makes tackling a twisty B-road an enjoyable experience, while the drum brakes are more than powerful enough to inspire confidence. Soft top in excellent condition (in beige). Plenty of receipts and service history available.
All we can add is that while the MGA might appear simple in design, there are enough pitfalls to make a rash purchase unwise.
That shouldn’t put you off this fine British classic – it just means that you need to take a little care and preferably engage the services of a reputable specialist to ensure you buy the right car. Our view of this car is that it is one of the nicer ones in New Zealand and that if you get a good example like this one, you’ll have one of the finest classic sports cars out there.
