Seller's Description
Although officially listed as the W186’s successor, the W189 or 300D “Adenauer” is largely seen as the last model of Mercedes-Benz’s 300 series range. The 300D was released in 1957 and is regarded as the “Maybach” of its time and is larger and more luxurious than its previous 300 models. The 300D came with an array of custom bespoke options such as glass petitions, VHF mobile telephone and dictation machines. It also featured many upgrades as standard from its predecessor including vacuumed assisted brakes, fully independent suspension and mechanical fuel injection, although its standout feature was its pillarless roofline which transformed it into a phaeton coupe. With the release of the 300SL just 2 years prior, the 300D received several mechanical upgrades which meant it now produced 180bhp with a top speed of 175km/h. This vehicle is an original RHD first sold new in London, UK. The vehicle was imported to Australia by its previous owner in the 1980s where it received a full ground up restoration including a full engine rebuild, new leather interior and new black paint for use in his wedding vehicle hire fleet until it was acquired by GCCM in 2015. Today it presents as a very honest car with lovely patina for its age. *Test Drive and Viewing by Appointment Only
