Seller's Description
Cadillac is a name that is notorious for being the epitome of US luxury cars through the 50s and 60s. The 1959 year model is undoubtedly the most iconic Cadillac ever produced. It was the peak of the “big fins” era and to this day remains amongst the biggest fins ever put on any car. The space race inspired rocket ship styling extends the entire way through the design of the car and it was packed with more luxury features than anything the world had seen at the time. You can imagine walking into a new car showroom back in 1959 and seeing this car on the floor, it really did look like something completely out of this world!
The other iconic association is Cadillac’s with the colour Pink. Initially beginning with Elvis painting his now iconic 55 Caddy pink to give to his mother then later, immortalised in the song ‘Pink Cadillac” by Bruce Springsteen. This particular example, a 1959 Cadillac Coupe Deville, is an original wood rose (pink) car with pink interior trim. The car was imported into Australia approximately seven years ago where it was given a freshen up including the paint work being redone in the factory colour. The paintjob isn’t a flawless show quality job but it certainly makes for a very nice driver quality car with a nice shine and only minor imperfections. The colour combo is extremely classy offset against the white roof and white wall tyres. The sheer amount of chrome and stainless trims on these cars is a sight to behold. The chrome on this example is in good condition but does show signs of age when up close with minor pitting throughout.
Under the bonnet is the factory 390ci V8 engine paired with the original 4 speed hydro-matic automatic transmission. The engine was reconditioned approximately 2 years ago and has travelled approx 2,500 miles since. The car glides nicely down the road like you would expect a Cadillac to do. The driving experience is enhanced by power steering and power brakes. Within the last two years the car has completed a trip from South Australia to Newcastle which speaks to the owner’s confidence in its reliability.
The factory style interior is in good condition all round with no rips or tears. Inside there are a number of cool options including the Autronic Eye, cruise control and factory air conditioning which while all in place are currently non functional. Also included and working well are power windows including power quarter vent windows, central locking, power seats and soft close power trunk locking mechanism. There are some scratches present in the windscreen from the wipers however included with the car is a good condition replacement windscreen for the new owner to fit if they wish.
Overall, the car can be described as a very nice driver quality car all round. It’s most at home cruising down open roads and freeways rather than sitting around at car shows. It certainly presents very well for a car of it’s age. Nice 1959 Cadillac coupes rarely become available on the market and are highly sought after by collectors worldwide. A great value entry into a great example of one of the most iconic luxury classic cars of all time!
