1959 MGA TWIN CAM COUPE SN4172 VIN: YM22467 ENG: 214416GBU $130,000 (To be sold UN-Registered & with Vic RWC) STUNNING & DESIRABLE, 1 OF 2 AUSTRALIAN DELIVERED Introduced in 1955, the MGA Replaced the Outdated Square Rigger style MGs with its New Sweeping Curved Lines were Designed to Challenge the Triumph TR2 and the Stylish Austin Healey 100 in the British Sports Car Market. Then in 1958 MG announced a ground breaking twin cam version of the MGA, with double overhead cams in an alloy head with the intention having a real high performance offering in the MGA range. Sadly, reliability issues, mostly due to the very high compression and poor fuel quality, tarnished the Twin Cam’s reputation and only 2,111 were produced, with the last rolling off the line in April 1960. With only 323 Twin Cam Coupes built, YM2 2467 is believed to be 1 of only 2 delivered new in Australia along with the Black YM2 2491. Built in September 1959, this Old English White Twin Cam has spent the majority of it’s life in New South Wales. Said to have won the concours at the first MG Car Club National Meeting, more recently the MGA won the Gold Award at the Thoroughbred Sports Car Club Pride of Ownership Day. Prior to winning the Gold Award this Stunning Matching Number Twin Cam underwent a full ‘body off chassis’ restoration over a number of years, a photographic record captures much of the detail of this work. As you would expect, the MGA now presents in better than new condition in its Original Old English White with the standard Twin Cam fitting of 4 wheel Dunlop Disc Brakes and Peg Drive Dunlop Disc Wheels, as fitted to many competition cars in period.
