SCARFACE
1963 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible Scarface Movie Car
Engine: V8 390-cid
Transmission: 4-speed automatic
History
The 1963 Cadillac line-up boasted revised sheetmetal, with simplified, squared-off lines completely devoid of any side sculpting and the rear fins continued shrinking. Four basic body styles were offered in the Series 62 range, 3 of them pillarless hardtops and, of course, the convertible (model 6267F), of which 17,600 were made. Standard equipment included Hydramatic transmission, power steering, self-adjusting power brakes, a heater, defroster, reversing and cornering lights, windscreen washers and dual speed wipers, and remote control door mirror. Cadillac continued to expand the range of options with no less than 143 interior appointments alone to choose from. The biggest change for 1963 came under the bonnet, with a smaller and significantly lighter engine block, although bore and stroke remained the same. Weight was down by 50 pounds, a lighter stronger crankshaft was used and ancillaries relocated for easier servicing. With a 10:5:1 compression ratio and Rochester four-barrel carburettor, the smoother, quieter 390-cid V8 delivered 325hp at 4800rpm and provided the Cadillac with a surprisingly good turn of speed for such a big car. Many road testers drew favorable comparisons with the contemporary Rolls-Royce, both in terms of refinement and outright performance. All were built on the 129.5 inch wheelbase with 8.00-15 tyres and continued to offer excellent value for money in the luxury car market.
