Its predecessor, the 230SL fell well short of the upgrades the 250SL had to offer.
Improvements began at a 'Cathedral Style' Bosch headlamps that positioned over the leading edge of the front fenders for the 250SL. Along with a few cosmetic changes, it offered an improved seat belt design, a collapsible steering column highlighted by a padded centre hub. Mercedes set the bar industry-wide with an interior design of luxury with a thick padded, fully instrumented dashboard and an inside cabin of high class leather.
