Seller's Description
Timing played an important role in ensuring that the few E49 Valiant Chargers that were built by Chrysler actually made it out the factory door. While the "Bullets on Wheels" supercar scare was breaking in the media in June 1972, Chrysler's new supercars quietly filtered through to the dealers. Ford's XA GTHO Phase 4 and Holden's XU2 V8 were not so lucky.Modern Motor magazine commented, "Chrysler has certainly put together a safe supercar that makes mockery of hysterical political mumbo-jumbo aimed at discrediting this concept car. The improved formula could be just enough to give Chrysler victory at Bathurst."Here is a rare opportunity to own a well known genuine Vitamin C Big Tank E49 Valiant Charger - one of only 21 optioned from the factory with the A84 Big Tank. The car has covered only 59,000 miles from new and is stunning with a careful closed door respray in 2000. This E49 was originally sold into Sydney, the car then moved to the second owner in Adelaide, SA and now resides in Perth with the 3rd owner since 2007.The all matching numbers E49 engine has been professionally rebuilt, blue printed and balanced, and runs and sounds beautiful. The Webers are genuine Day One with correct part numbers ending in 55, 55, 56. The famous extractors lead through to the 2 1/4" twin exhaust and then through to genuine chrome factory exhaust tips. The D20 4 speed is in perfect condition and runs through to the 3.5:1 Suregrip rear end.The new paint is in 2 Pack Vitamin C and presents in unmarked condition throughout. The car has never had any accident repair or rust repair, and is gun barrel straight. The interior is all original, including carpet, hoodlining, gauges including the original kilometre per hour gauge (fitted from factory as the car was supposedly built for export). The factory chalk markings are there under the crashpad, and the mudflaps are genuine Chrysler branded items. In the boot there is the huge 35 gallon (160 litre) fuel tank with the original cardboard cover, those wonderful twin fillers hanging off the rear quarters and the original spare and jack tools are still in place. The E49 is up there with the Phase 3s and A9X Toranas as far as collectability goes. In fact in the 1972 Bathurst race, Doug Chivas clocked 234 km/h on Conrod Straight in the rain and put the huge 35 gallon fuel tank to good use when he got past half way through the race without one stop. These locally made street registerable supercars were built by their manufacturers for one purpose, to win races, especially the ultimate race at Bathurst, the Hardie Ferodo 500. This connection to Bathurst and the legends of motorsport who drove these cars guarantees their collectability and their soundness as investments well into the future. Located in Perth, WA and available for inspection by appointment. And if you are unable to travel due to Covid restrictions, AMCS will gladly arrange a video inspection/road test of the car using WhatsApp and of course there is no issue with door to door freight delivery anywhere in Australia or New Zealand.
