History of the Series 3 E-Type
The last incarnation of the Jaguar E-Types, the Series 3 was produced as an open two-seater (OTS) and a 2+2 coupe. Being officially launched in March 1971 and continuing production through to Aug. 1973 for the 2+2 and June 1974 for the OTS. A total of 15,287 Series 3 E-Types were produced in both LHD & RHD, the majority being delivered to the US market and only 3,796 being produced in a RHD of which just 56 OTS and 116 2+2 were destined for Australia.

The Series 3 was the end of the evolution stemming from the original Malcolm Sayer designed E-type Series 1, a 3.8 litre straight six which made its debut in March of 1961, at the Geneva Motor Show and took the world by storm. From those early beginnings, the Series 3 grew longer and wider and was now powered by the first ever production all alloy 5.3 Litre V12 engine producing 272bhp and 304 lb.ft of torque. To effectively accommodate the 60 degree V12, the tubular frame had to be widened as did the track, resulting in the flared front & rear guards which gave the Series 3 a more purposeful stance.

Many might argue that the unique purity of the Series 1 E-type had strayed too far with the Series 3, having lost much of the original appeal and characteristics of that early design. That said, there is no denying that the Series 3 E-type still retains much of that original DNA but with significant technological improvements that culminated into a more comfortable fast-paced long distance tourer with the looks and performance that unquestionably makes it one of the most appealing and recognised sports cars of all time. The E-Type's ultimate demise was hastened by the oil crisis of the early 1970's and the ever tightening US safety regulations, which the E-Type just could not meet.

History of Miss Moneypenny
This example, affectionately named ``Miss Moneypenny``, is a 1972 Series 3 E-Type fitted with a 4-speed manual. Coachwork is in original colour scheme of Pale Primrose with contrasting black leather trim. One of only 69 Series 3 E-Types to be delivered new into South Africa in January 1973, to a Mr. A Stokes. Miss Moneypenny is an all matching numbers RHD 2+2, which returned back to the UK, with Mr. A Stokes, in May of 1973. There, it resided until it was ultimately repatriated to Melbourne, Australia in 1995 and placed into storage until 2005 when an extensive 9-year restoration was commenced.

Being completely dismantled, the body was sent to Jaguar E-Type Restorations for the very best of attention. Whilst all mechanicals were either refurbished or replaced with the balance of the restoration being completed in Dec. 2014, when it once again saw the light of day back on the road. Miss Moneypenny is used on regular Jaguar Club outings and continues to be the subject of ongoing enhancements & joy. Like a fine wine; she continues to improve with age.

This genuine series 3 model 5.3L example is so rare and collectable, sought after by Jaguar fanatics, enthusiasts and purists.
