1982 rolls-royce corniche automatic 2d convertible
Seller's Description
Few names of cars can evoke such a vision of an elegant, wondrously carefree and indulgent lifestyle than Corniche. It was and still is the perfect mode of transport for those with a certain level of means in life and it provided that role for its entire 30-year run.
Its name was aptly taken from the French word corniche, a coastal road and most notably the Grand Corniche which runs along the French Riveria above Monaco. If there was ever a perfect home for this car then that location is it.
The origins of the Corniche were born from the development of the Mulliner Park Ward two-door versions of the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow. These were designated as the 2-door Saloon and Drophead Coupé, introduced in 1965 and 1966 respectively. Production remained in London at Mulliner Park Ward; the new name was applied in March 1971 and is visible on the kick plates of the doors. The Corniche was in production from 1971 to 1995 and then 1999 to 2002.
Our Rolls Royce Corniche – Chassis DRH0050719
Records suggest that this Corniche was purchased by an Australian and shipped shortly afterwards to Australia in 1983 where it has resided with just 4 owners, all of which were in sunny Queensland – an appropriate location for such a car.
The 4th and current owner has enjoyed the car for the last 7 years but owing to downsizing he no longer has space for this magnificent example. There are extensive service records with the car, and it has clearly led a cosseted life. In 2007 mileage was just 67,345 and it currently reads only 73,109 miles. During this period of 18 years servicing was regular and carried out by Steve Sparks a known expert with Rolls Royce cars. Indeed, the most recent and thorough service was carried out just 180 miles ago.
The original Georgian Silver really suits this car beautifully and all the brightwork presents as new. First impressions really count, and this colour scheme coupled with such a timeless and elegant design cannot fail but to impress.
The car was treated to a bare metal repaint back in 2012 as a previous owner had changed the colour to blue. At that point it was returned to its original colour. On close inspection there are a few blemishes in the paint probably due to a paint reaction, but these are only visible on very close inspection, and they do not detract from the overall presentation and presence of the car.
The interior of these cars is a really special place to be. The driver is greeted by a dash that is a work of art. The timber veneers are just stunning to the eye, and all the gauges present as new. Unusually we understand this car was fitted with an extended centre console which was not used until later models. The air-conditioning has been recently serviced and works perfectly as does the roof which is in excellent order.
The quality of the hides used in these cars really is at another level. The seats are so incredibly comfortable, and the leather is supple, uncracked and rich in colour. Records suggest that they were treated to leather feed in 2012 and other work carried out the carpets at this time. The dark blue contrasts perfectly with the body colour. The generally excellent condition and service records suggest the low mileage is correct although we cannot confirm that. The roof lining is unmarked. All the interior lighting works as it should and the lambswool over mats are a lovely feature.
Turn the key and you can barely hear the 6.75 litre V8. Engage drive and you are off and progressing on a cushion of serenity. The driving experience is quite extraordinary.
You cannot help but smile when you drive a car of this stature. You become part of a wonderous theatre of carefree and a joyously opulent lifestyle but measured with timeless taste.
For a car of such scale, it handles remarkably well. Expectations of ‘rolling’ in and out of corners are quickly dispelled and the braking is excellent. Of course, this is not the type of car to hurry but there is plenty of power on tap when required. It really is an absolute delight to drive and a thoroughly memorable experience.
The engine bay is detailed and presents beautifully. The boot carpet and over mat is in excellent condition.
This is an excellent example of the iconic Rolls Royce Corniche in a fabulous colour scheme that has been cossetted throughout its life. It comes with its original owners’ books and keys and is serviced with new tyres and ready for its next custodian to have this special car in their life.
