Harking back to the iconic 1973 ‘2.7 Carrera RS’, the 964 Carrera RS, introduced some 20 years later in 1992 would be just the second Porsche 911 to wear the famed ‘Carrera RS’ name. A true homologation special, the 964 underwent a strict weight saving regime, saving near 300lbs through the removal of luxuries like air-conditioning, power steering, electric windows, rear seats and cruise control, resulting in a final weight of 1217kg, which when propelled by an uprated 260bhp, allows the 964 RS to achieve 60mph in just 5.1 seconds.
Starting life in November 1992 as a ‘Chellingworth Motors Porsche Perth’ delivered 964 Carrera 2, finished in ‘Grand Prix White’, this 911 would go on to far exceed standard specifications.
In 2013, PR Technology (Brookvale NSW) were entrusted with the Grand Prix White 964, with the vision to build a ‘Carrera RS’ tribute, to be used as a competitive tarmac rally car. Receiving its CAMS Category 3C ‘Production Rally Car’ log book in April 2015, ready to be entered into the 2015 Targa Tasmania in the ‘Spirit of Tasmania Early Modern’ Class.
A thick file of receipts show vast expense spent on the 964 by PR Technology, dating between 2013 and 2015, totaling just shy of $300,000, with highlights including the fitment of a 993 6 speed manual gearbox, a MoTec M84 ECU, full engine rebuild (3.8L) and a full set of ‘MCA Suspension’ Gold Series coilovers with Eibach springs and remote canisters.
Sold through ‘Autohaus Hamilton’ in July 2021 with 174,505km to a Victorian enthusiast, who over the span of 4.5 years restored the Porsche back to a roadcar, and more importantly to be as correct as a Tribute to the ‘Carrera RS’ as possible (without sacrificing the 911’s hugely impressive performance), with the supplied invoices show over $135,000 spent.
Now presenting superbly, the 964 is fitted with ‘RS’ correct: aluminium bonnet, manual windows, aircon delete, steering wheel, rear deck embroidery, sunroof delete, brand new dashboard & 964 Carrera RS rear badging, with the added addition of a set of new ‘Recaro Profi SPG’ seats to round out the package.
Last serviced by Auto Coupe in December 2024 at 174,910km, the Porsche now shows just 175,449km, presents beautifully and is ready and waiting for a new enthusiast to drive and enjoy the ‘Carrera RS’, without the worry of depreciating your $1,000,000+ 911.
