2015 Variety Bash preview
From Bass Hill to Bunbury, the 2015 event will be a special one, as Bashers have been granted special permission to drive the original Nullarbor Track. Participants will also explore the spectacular vistas of the Great Australian Bight and peruse the magnificent coastline around Esperance; all in support of Variety - the Children's Charity.
This year's Bash route covers 10 day, between 2nd August and 11th August, visiting 18 regional and remote towns across four states. The inclusion of the old Nullarbor Track route, from Yalata to Eucla, will allow Bashers to deliver $5,000 worth of play equipment to the children of the Yalata Community.
Neither a race nor a rally, the Variety Dick Smith Bash is a drive in the Outback with like-minded fundraisers, driving the "miles for the smiles" and enjoying travelling to parts of Australia that they may not otherwise see, while at the same time raising money to support Variety - the Children's Charity. Last year's event raised more than $2.2 million NET, which through Variety has assisted thousands of Aussie kids who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs with the provision of vital equipment and services, helping them gain mobility, self-esteem and independence and the chance to achieve their full potential.
If you're keen on getting involved, and all you need to know can be found at www.variety.org.au/nswBASH. Here you'll find a detailed itinerary, fundraising requirements ($8,500 minimum) and even pre-loved Bash vehicles for sale. Bash vehicles must be pre-1976, but aside from that, anything goes. This year's confirmed entries already include a 1939 Oldsmobile, as well as ambulances, vans, utes and even a couple of hearses!
Tam Johnston, CEO of Variety - the Children's Charity NSW admires the generosity and mateship of the Bashers and larger community, and is proud of what they have been able to achieve with their fundraising efforts saying, "In the event's 30 year history, $208 million has been raised for Aussie kids in need - bringing mobility, self-esteem and independence to the lives of thousands of special needs and disadvantaged kids." Tam continued, "It is immeasurable; the lifelong impact that the Bashing community has on Aussie kids in need."
