BMW previews updated M2 Coupe
BMW Australia has announced that an updated M2 Coupe is coming later this year, with more power, new paint options, a new wheel design, technology upgrades and interior improvements. Most of these will also apply to the regular 2 Series Coupe.
The rear-wheel drive coupe’s M TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder engine has been tweaked to deliver 353kW; an improvement of 15kW on the current model. On M2 Coupes equipped with the M Steptronic Sport eight-speed automatic, maximum torque increases to 600Nm, but remains at 550Nm for units fitted with the optional six-speed manual transmission.
The upgrade marginally improves 0-100km/h acceleration times – to 4.2 seconds for the manual and 4.0 for the auto – but top speed remains limited to 250km/h. Bigger improvements are claimed in engine mapping to provide more immediate throttle response in all drive modes.
Cosmetic changes start with new paint options, including Fire Red, Portimao Blue and Skyscraper Grey (all metallic) and Sao Paulo Yellow (solid), while new colours added to the BMW Individual portfolio include Voodoo Blue, Java Green, Grigio Telesto and Twilight Purple.
There’s a new M alloy wheel option, in a double spoke design and finished in silver. This will be offered in the same 19/20 front/rear combination as existing M2 wheels.
Inside, the M2 Coupe’s Vernasca leather seat upholstery can now be optioned with a two-tone red/black finish, with M Carbon front bucket seats also optional. The The standard M Carbon Fibre look interior trim is unchanged, but a new M steering wheel has been fitted. Now with a flat bottom, modified spokes and red 12 o’clock marker, this is trimmed in leather as standard, with Alcantara trim optional.
Tech upgrades see the addition of the latest BMW iDrive control system, based on BMW’s Operating System 8.5. The instrument panel has been redesigned “to enhance functionality,” while air vents on either side of the dash and in the centre of the instrument panel add rotating and tilting adjustment.
The current BMW M2 Coupe lists for $121,700 (+ ORCs). Pricing and full specifications for the upgraded model are expected shortly, with Australian deliveries from Q4, 2024.
