AC Schnitzer produced tuned Police BMW 4 Series coupe

Rather than go for the usual racecar-inspired custom, AC Schnitzer created a police-spec custom on BMW's new 4-Series platform as part of a safe tuning initiative.

Under the "TUNE IT! SAFE!" banner, a joint venture, between the Association of German Vehicle Tuners (VDAT) and BMW, a custom police vehicle has been created each year for the past four years. This year, AC Schnitzer worked their magic on BMW's all-new 428i coupe. The initiative is supported by Germany's Federal Ministry for Transport, Construction and Road Development and the Police.

Dubbed the "ACS4 2.8i Coupe," the AC Schnitzer creation features a number of commercially-available (in the European market) parts from the Aachen-based company, as well as an engine power upgrade to 216 kW/294hp and 420Nm. The police vehicle now accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.

The low-slung stance is the result of AC Schnitzer racing suspension, adjustable in compression and rebound. Front spoiler, rear diffuser, rear spoiler and rear roof spoiler complete the aerodynamic conversion. Other external AC Schnitzer touches include new chromed "Evo Racing" tailpipe trims, which cap a stainless steel twin sports exhaust system.

The latest AC Schnitzer Type VIII lightweight forged wheels in 9.0J x 21-inch are fitted with "Ventus S1evo" tyres in 245/30 ZR 21 91Y from Hankook, chief sponsor for TUNE IT! SAFE!.

Inside, AC Schnitzer have added their own aluminium pedals, foot rest and "Black Line" handbrake handle, and a new key holder. Velour floor mats complete the interior styling.

To make the BMW visually into a "true" police car, TUNE IT! SAFE! partner FOLIATEC were tapped to produce the official livery and graphics, while Hella provided the special lightbar and RTK 7 signalling system.

AC Schnitzer stress that the TUNE IT! SAFE! 428i coupe by is no mere show car: it is fully usable, and has been optimised in many areas. For example, the performance upgrade has improved the CO2 value per hp, and the efficiency of the engine has been optimised. The forged Type VIII alloys reduce the rotary forces by a perceptible 100 kg, which in conjunction with the height-adjustable racing suspension, ensures significantly improved driving qualities. We call this Efficient Performance by AC Schnitzer.

Following its official unveiling at the Essen Motor Show (November 29 - December 8), the TUNE IT! SAFE! BMW 428i coupe will travel to many other shows, exhibitions and events throughout Germany.
