BMW 'DTM Champion Edition' M4 confirmed for Aus
Described as a roadgoing version of Wittman's race winner, the DTM Champion Edition features the unique water injection system for the M4's twin turbo 3.0-litre straight six engine that allows for increased turbo boost pressure and more aggressive ignition timing, in turn delivering more power and torque: the claimed 368kW and 600Nm is an increase of 51kW and 50Nm over the standard M4.
The DTM Champion Edition also features a titanium quad exhaust system and seven-speed M double-clutch transmission, driving the rear wheels and delivering a claimed 0-100km/h time of 3.8 seconds, with top speed limited to 305km/h.
Available only in Alpine White, the BMW M4 DTM Champion Edition's exterior reflects that of the DTM racer, with additional M striping, while carbon fibre is used for the roof and bonnet, fixed front splitter, mirror caps, side skirts, diffuser and spoiler.
M carbon ceramic brakes are standard, while wheels are '666 M' alloys (19-inch Fr, 20-inch Rr) shod with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres.
Three-way adjustable M Coilover Suspension is standard, while concessions to regular driving come in the form of adaptive LED headlights and OLED tail lights, BMW's Professional Navigation System with iDrive functionality, air conditioning, front and rear parking sensors, auto-dimming mirrors, head-up display, TPMS and the full suite of BMW's ConnectedDrive services.
Inside, the DTM Champion Edition further reflects its inspiration with the roll cage, six-point seat harnesses and fire extinguisher from the Race Package and only two seats.
The seats themselves are thin-shelled M buckets, trimmed in Alcantara and Merino leather, with other additions including an M Sports steering wheel and a commemorative plaque signed by Marco Wittman.
Announced today, the 10 local-delivery DTM Champion Edition M4s are expected to arrive in Q1, 2017, and will carry a price of $295,000 (excl. ORCs.) each.
