Ford reveals 2026 Mustang Dark Horse
Ford Australia has confirmed the return of the Mustang Dark Horse for 2026. What was limited to 1,000 units on its initial release in 2024, will be even more exclusive this time around. Australian allocation of the MY26 Mustang Dark Horse is capped at no more than 500 units. However, Ford will release an additional 250 Dark Horses with track-inspired upgrades, created in collaboration with Triple Eight Race Engineering – Ford’s homologation team for the Repco Supercars Championship.

Familiar Features for ’26
The MY26 Mustang Dark Horse is largely unchanged from the unit that was a sellout locally in its initial form. Based on the Mustang GT and only as a fastback coupe, the Dark Horse is powered by a 5.0-litre V8 with specific tuning to produce 350kW and 550Nm. This engine is hooked up to a close ratio Tremec six-speed manual as standard (instead of a Getrag six-speed in the Mustang GT), with a ten-speed automatic optional.
MagneRide magnetically adjustable suspension and a Torsen LSD are standard Dark Horse spec, along with 19-inch alloys. These and the standard rear wing are painted in special Tarnish Dark paint, with exhaust tips in black and model-specific grille and badging.

Onyx Black remains the sole interior trim available, while nine exterior paint choices include new-for-2026 Molten Magenta, Adriatic Blue and Orange Fury. These and four others are ‘prestige paint’ options, which add $975 to the list price. The optional Appearance Pack, consisting of a black roof and blue brake calipers, carries over from the initial Dark Horse offering. This is mandatory when ordering a Dark Horse in Blue Ember, and a $3,575 extra for cars in Shadow Black, Vapour Blue and Adriatic Blue.
The only other option for the MY26 Dark Horse is a $3,835 pair of Recaro sports front seats with 6-way power adjustment.

T8-Spec celebrates Ford reunion
Triple Eight Race Engineering, who compete in Supercars as Red Bull Ampol Racing, switched back to Ford this year after 15 years with GM (Holden and Chev). The T8-Spec Pack celebrates this reunion, with the package to bring what’s described as championship-winning DNA to the roadgoing Mustang Dark Horse.
“The Mustang Dark Horse is already the pinnacle of performance, but T8-Spec takes it to a new level of track-focused capability,” said Ambrose Henderson, Director of Marketing, Ford Australia.
“By partnering with Triple Eight Race Engineering, we’ve created a vehicle that not only celebrates our racing heritage but offers our most passionate enthusiast customers a globally unique, bespoke numbered collector's item vehicle, upfit right here in Melbourne.”

T8-Spec features
The T8-Spec Pack will only be available on MY26 Mustang Dark Horses fitted with the Tremec six-speed manual. Additionally, these vehicles are finished in Avalanche (grey) prestige paint that’s unavailable on the regular Dark Horse.

Key changes that define the pack start with wider wheels – 19x10.5-inch front and 19x11-inch rear (compared to 19x9 and 19x9.5 on the standard Dark Horse) – with Pirelli P Zero Trofeo tyres in 305/30R19 and 315/30-R19 sizes. The MagneRide suspension is retuned, with stiffer springs, stiffer roll bars and adjustable top mounts fitted for greater stability and more immediate steering response.

To improve aerodynamic performance, a larger rear spoiler is fitted, with the Gurney flap for this accented in Grabber Blue. An enhanced front splitter is provided (but not fitted) for track use only.
Cosmetic additions include a black roof, Triple Eight branding on the tail light panel in Grabber Blue, unique bonnet decals and a Notorious Blue finish for the Brembo brake calipers.

Inside, Recaro sports seats feature Indigo bolsters, the doors gain Triple Eight scuff plates, there’s a unique shifter knob, and a build plate on the dash with each car’s individual build number.
All T8-Spec Packs will be fitted by Ford Australia at their ‘Plant 2’ facility (located near the former head office at Broadmeadows) as a Ford Licensed Accessory. Cars so equipped retain the factory five-year/unlimited km warranty.

Every customer who purchases a Mustang Dark Horse with the T8-Spec Pack will also be invited to an exclusive ‘Track Experience’ at Queensland Raceway in the first half of 2027. Owners will have the opportunity to engage with the Triple Eight team and learn the full potential of their vehicle in its natural habitat.

"All of us at Triple Eight Race Engineering are incredibly proud to be partnering with Ford, and the Mustang Dark Horse T8-Spec is a fantastic way to celebrate our return to the track with the Blue Oval,” said Triple Eight Race Engineering Managing Director Jamie Whincup.
