FPV GT F - the last of the line
As well as a full stop, the GT F ('F' for 'Final') will also be an exclamation mark, as it's the most powerful GT sedan ever produced by Ford Australia. The GT F's supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine produces 351 kilowatts, an output figure specifically chosen in reference to the iconic 351 cubic-inch 5.8 litre V8s that powered the original Falcon GTs.
Limited Edition
Each unit of the 500 FPV GT Fs to be built this month (plus 50 for New Zealand) will carry an individual build number, with most of the desired numbers already reserved by collectors and GT enthusiasts.
When the GT F was announced in April, customers rushed dealers Australia-wide to secure their car. At time of writing, the entire run of GT F sedans was close to selling out, with all the manual transmission versions gone, and only a handful of automatic versions without pre-paid buyers.
Appearance features
The identifying external feature on the GT F is the unique bonnet 'black out' panel, which harks back to the original Falcon GTs. This panel extends over the roof and boot lid, too.
Other features include 'stealth' exterior striping, together with gloss black accents on the 'raccoon eyes' headlamp surrounds, grilles, appliques, door handles, mirrors and rear diffuser.
'GT orange' detailing is used on the model's unique '351' badging, instrument faces, seat stitching and embroidery, build number, manual transmission plaquette and the ICC start-up screen.
Interior finishes have generally darker tones and a more lustrous appearance, including the instrument panel spears, which help to differentiate the F from current FPV models.
The GT F has five exterior colours options: Winter White, Kinetic (blue), Smoke (grey), Silhouette (black), and Octane (orange). The top and side striping can be ordered in matte black, metallic silver, performance white, or metallic gold. There will also be a choice of three colour tonings; either tone-on-tone, or a heritage look in the style of the first Falcon GT. A tailored car cover in dark grey will also be available.
As the 'last of the line', the FPV GT F is already a sought after collector's item, with rumours of enthusiasts paying as much as $30,000 over the $77,990 (excluding ORCs) list price to secure their example.
The final FPV may not be the GTHO that enthusiasts were hoping for, but the overwhelming interest confirms that the GT F will be a future classic, if indeed it isn't one already.
