Morgan Aero 8 heading down under
With the end of production of the Supersports and Coupe last year, the fifth generation Aero 8 marks a return to soft top motoring and has been described as the most refined Aero to date.
More importantly, the latest Aero 8 has been subject to significant changes in the aluminium chassis, suspension and aerodynamics.
The chassis now delivers more torsional stiffness, while there's a revised front end set-up, all new suspension componentry, anti-roll bars and a limited-slip diff. Morgan say these changes result in improved handling without sacrificing comfort.
Exterior styling features a dramatic clam shell-style boot lid that also serves as the cover and tensioner for a new double-lined mohair hood. An optional removable hardtop is available.
The latest generation Aero 8 also features a new dashboard arrangement, real timber dash trim, textured box-woven carpets and fine leather upholstery.
Standard comfort and tech features include air-conditioning, sat nav, a modern sound system and Bluetooth.
Drivetrain is unchanged for the latest generation: a 4.8-litre BMW V8, coupled to either a 6-speed manual or optional 6-speed automatic. Claimed power output of 270kW (367hp) and 450Nm of torque is enhanced by the Aero 8's sub-1200kg weight to deliver exhilarating performance.
Each car is hand-crafted and tailored at the Morgan factory to suit customer requirements, with infinite combinations of paint and leather, as well as a vast array of detail choices available.
Morgan Cars Australia P/L are now taking orders for the Aero 8, ahead of expected delivery in 2017. Indicative retail price is $270,000 (excl. options and on-road costs).
