VW produce Amarok 'R-Style' concept
Aside from the low stance (a full 80mm drop in ride height), the R-Style concept is identified by its 22-inch alloys and a full body kit. The load area is uniquely finished, incorporating a wide roll bar, while a dual exhaust system exits from the rear.
Inside, the Amarok R-Style sports bucket seats trimmed in Nubuck leather, a premium sound system and comprehensive infotainment6 system with 8-inch screen.
Under the bonnet, the R-Style is powered by a 3.0-litre TDi V6 that develops 200kW and 600Nm torque and a claimed 0-100kph time of 7.9 seconds. This compares to the stock Amarok with a 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel four, which produces 132kW and 420Nm respectively.
Transmission is an 8-speed ZF automatic, as per the production Amarok, and the R-Style also features VW's 4MOTION permanent all-wheel drive system.
Whether the Amarok R-Style will become a production reality is anyone's guess, but the fact that the R-Style has even been created in the first place indicates that Volkswagen have seen the market for performance utilities - especially in America - and may be looking to grab a piece of that market with a halo model along the lines of the R-Style.
