1965 Volkswagen Beetle 1200 Standard, 4-speed, finished in beige with a red interior. Genuine Australian-assembled model with the distinctive '19' prefix chassis number, built at Volkswagen's Clayton, Melbourne plant. It retains the correct 1965 factory features, including the internal fuel filler beneath the front bonnet, left-side parking wipers and push-button engine lid handle.
I've owned the car for the past 25 years—it was my first car—and it has remained largely original throughout that time. The only significant changes are a 12-volt conversion and reconditioned engine and upholstery; otherwise it retains its original specification.
The car has been garaged throughout my ownership and, while I was living overseas over the past ten years, was started and driven approximately once a month. It remained on full NSW registration until 2025 and is in good mechanical condition, starts and drives well, with no known faults.
Complete with an original ABC logo sticker and rear window venetian—a nice touch of period nostalgia.
