1988 mazda rx7 5 sp manual 2d convertible

This Cabriolet/Targa is an exceptionally rare RX7, previously overlooked until recent years, as many have been parted out or left to rust. This is a car that has been cared for and loved which shows throughout the condition inside and out. Starting with the paint and panel, the original red colour is not only gleaming but free from imperfections and any swirls or marks. There is no rust in the car anywhere, period. The bonnet has been upgraded to an aluminium Turbo bonnet, which is noticeably lighter than the steel versions and apart from how light it is to lift, you can also see the factory rivets rather than welds that the steel versions had. The body kit is series 5 and includes front and rear bumpers, spoilers, side skirts and mirrors. Rear tail lights are series 5 JDM. The glass is still all perfect and the power fabric roof is beautiful and in excellent working condition. The middle section can be removed and stored behind the seats on the parcel shelf with the rear of the roof remaining up in Targa position or down in convertible. The car looks fat in any or the three guises, either roof up, down or targa. I really like targa as its something different and is like having a giant sunroof while and it retains the awesome wedge shape of the roof up classic lines. Engine is naturally aspirated and is sweet as a nut. Always starts first kick hot or cold and settles into a nice smooth idle. The engine has been previously rebuilt and engine oil remains clean between oil changes. It always maintains good oil and coolant temperatures with its aftermarket aluminium radiator and electric thermo fan. The air conditioning has been put back to full working condition with new pipe seals, pressure switch, pag oil and gas which has it blowing nice and cold. Even in Targa form, the air con is nice to have turned on during a hot day, as it will cool the cabin nicely before blowing out the big space above your head from the removed central roof panel. The gearbox is lovely to swap cogs and there is no slop from the recently replaced gear stick bushes. The exhaust is raspy and has a delightful snap crackle and pop on the overrun or when changing down gears. Brakes have be replaced following a previous period of layup along with the fuel sender. The car has had a major service including engine, gearbox and diff oils, coolant flush, brake fluid, new ignition switch, drive belts, heater core, staged injectors serviced and filters. The car handles very well and even on the large 20” wheels with big tyres the suspension is a testament to how well dialled it is to handle these treads. It doesn’t have any skuttle shake or tramlining, it just goes where you point it with confidence and remains comfortable when cruising. The interior of the car is a wonderful place to spend time. The steering wheel is flat bottomed Momo and has a nice chunky feel. The seats are series 5 and very hard to find in such remarkably great condition. Carpet is still soft and plush, showing how premium these Mazda’s were in the range when delivered new. There are absolutely no cracks in the dashboard or door trims and all the power window buttons work nicely as do the pop up head lights. The stereo has a big amp and additional speakers for a nice sound system when cruising. The boot still retains its space saver spare and carpet. 6 ports in this condition are increasingly hard to find. This specimen is a one of a kind with its fat body kit and low stance. Such a joy to drive or just look at. Definitely an appreciating modern classic, very close to 40 years old now and in such mint condition with nothing needing to be done, its ready for its next custodian to just jump in and have new adventures.
