“McLaughlin” Mustang to be auctioned for charity
A one-off roadgoing Mustang that was driven by three-time Supercars Champion Scott McLaughlin is being auctioned for children’s cancer charity Camp Quality.
In a series of Ford-sponsored ‘speed comparison’ exhibition laps at the 2019 Superloop Adelaide 500, McLaughlin drove the Mustang alongside fellow Ford legends Marcos Ambrose, in a 2019 Mustang NASCAR, and Dick Johnson, who later became the first person to drive a Mustang Supercar at an official race meeting.
The car to be auctioned is 2018-plated and was a road-registered Ford Australia executive vehicle, with the factory-fitted options of 19-inch forged aluminium alloy wheels, MagneRide magnetically-adjustable suspension and Recaro seating.
In 2019, it was specially prepared by Ford legend Rob Herrod for McLaughlin’s Ford Speed Comparison laps at the Superloop Adelaide 500. Modifications included Ford Performance/Mustang exterior graphics, specially-painted alloys, a half-roll cage, four-point racing harness, rear-seat delete kit, ARP front and rear wheel hubs with ARP studs, a fire extinguisher and a factory spoiler.
"I just remember first driving that Mustang around the streets of Adelaide and asking Rob Herrod what he did to it as it rode the curbs really well!” said McLaughlin.
“Sharing the track with two Ford legends like Dick and Marcos was a hell of an experience and one I'll never forget. To now see the car being auctioned with all proceeds going to Camp Quality is just awesome."
Ryan Story, Team Principal of Shell V-Power Racing, is a Camp Quality Ambassador and says that proceeds from the auction will do a lot to support kids facing cancer.
“This year has been tough for everyone, but it hasn't stopped the important work Camp Quality do to support sick kids with cancer and their families,” Story said.
This Mustang is a very special car, not to mention being the only one Scott has raced that he hasn't won in! This specific car was part of the launch of the Mustang Supercar and Ford coming back into Supercars in a big way. It holds a place in history.”
The Mustang is being auctioned unregistered, with just 12,301kms on the clock and all the Herrod modifications in place.
Given its one-off status and modifications, Shannons expect the Mustang to sell in the $55,000 - $75,000 range.
The car will go to the highest bidder when online bids close at 7pm EST on Wednesday, 28 October, 2020. An Engineer's certificate will be provided after the sale.
