32nd Historic Winton

No matter what your favourite flavour, there was something to appeal, from near-priceless Bugattis to rough and ready 'Humpy Holden' speedway cars, Aussie muscle, classic British sportscars, open wheelers and more, including motorbikes and sidecar outfits.As is par for the course at Historic Winton, what was in the paddock was just as captivating as what was on the track! A variety of Model T Fords (see separate story in 'T-time'), Bolwells and Austin-Healey Sprites were there in organised displays, as well as plenty more individually entered and equally fascinating cars that the crowd pored over.

A restored Packard Deluxe Clipper caught the eye of JUST CARS staffers, but our pick of the meet would have to go to the custom Torana - a very interesting vehicle.

Display cars

With 2008 serving as a milestone year for a number of different marques and models, car clubs were out in force at Winton. One of the biggest groups present was the Austin Healey Sprite Drivers Club Inc., who had a professional tent set-up and a tasty selection of cars on display, from early bugeyes to the late Spridgets.

Bolwell was also on show, partly to acknowledge Campbell Bolwell's return to designing and building sportscars 50 years after he first started to make his dreams a reality.

'Humpy Holden' speedway cars are a rare sight these days, but a few survivors of this crash-n-bash form of motorsport were on hand to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Wahgunyah Speedway.
