Aus pricing for Mercedes-AMG E 63 announced
The AMG E 63 S will be the first to arrive, due in June with a pricetag of $239,900. The lower-grade AMG E 63 is scheduled for a December arrival and will be priced at $209,900 (both prices are MLP only, including LCT, but excluding other ORCs).
Exclusive to the AMG E 63 S will be the optional 'Edition 1' pack which includes designo selenite grey magno paintwork, AMG high-performance ceramic composite brakes, AMG sill panels and side sports decals, black AMG Exclusive nappa leather seats with yellow topstitching, an AMG Performance steering wheel in DINAMICA microfibre with yellow contrasting topstitching, AMG carbon fibre trim elements, plus subtle yellow highlights, stitching and edging throughout the cabin. The Edition 1 adds $18,900 (MLP) over the E 63 S's list price.
Both AMG E 63 models are powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine, producing 420kW/750Nm (E 63) and 450kW/850Nm (E 63 S), with 0-100km/h times listed at 3.5 and 3.4 seconds, respectively, while top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h for the E 63 and 300km/h for the E 63 S.
The engine is fitted with cylinder deactivation to reduce fuel consumption (9.3lt/100km claimed), while the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ permanent all-wheel drive system - fitted to both models for the first time locally - incorporates fully variable torque distribution on the front and rear axles. To this, the AMG E 63 S adds an electronic LSD and 'Drift Mode" that claims to deliver the driving experience of an exclusively rear-wheel drive vehicle.
The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT nine-speed sports transmission fitted to both versions combines with a wet start-off clutch for the first time, enabling more agile response times to be achieved. AMG sports suspension is based on the AIR BODY CONTROL air suspension system, in which the three-chamber air spring is adjustable via transmission modes that activate (or de-activate) individual air chambers to deliver a softer or firmer ride as required.
Tobias Moers, the CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH says: "The new AMG E 63 represents the biggest step forward we've ever taken from one generation to the next.
"Vehicle dynamics were especially important to us. At the start of the development process, we opted for a fully variable all-wheel drive system which, when combined with the advanced performance of the 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine, reaffirms our brand's 'Driving Performance' claim."
