Aussie classics sell well at Shannons Sydney Auction
The auction saw three cars sell for over $100,000, and while the Aussie contingent didn't reach those heights, one did come pretty close.
A 1985 Holden VK 'Brock' Commodore Group 'A' SS sedan, one of only 500 built for Group A homologation, sold for $92,000. Nicknamed the 'Blue Meanie,' the VK Group A SS is arguably the most collectable of all the HDT cars. This example, number 485 of the 500 homologation specials built, showed only 31,197km and was in very good condition.
A much older Holden also achieved a very good price in the form of a 1951 Holden 50-2106 (aka 'FX') utility. Presented in substantially original condition, this very tidy example of the first Holden ute sold for $35,500 after solid floor bidding.
Other Aussies from this auction included a 'no reserve' 1955 FJ Standard Sedan in unrestored condition which went for $10,500, while a '74 LH Torana S sedan, also offered at no reserve, sold for $14,500. A1968 XT Falcon GT, finished in GT Gold and fitted with a 302 V8 and 3-speed auto, failed to make its reserve and was passed in.
Overall, this auction was considered a big success, with an 81-percent clearance rate and total sales of $1.7 million. The Sydney auction also saw the best result to date for Shannons online bidding option launched earlier this year, with more than 200 online bidders registered.
