Bentley to end Mulsanne production
The two farewells will be combined, with the final Mulsannes to be badged as the Mulsanne ‘6.75 Edition’.
“The Mulsanne has played a pivotal role in maintaining Bentley’s position as global leader of the luxury limousine segment. The flagship of our model range, its longevity is a testament to our ongoing commitment to hand-building the finest motor cars in the world. The new Mulsanne 6.75 Edition is the culmination of that achievement,” said Chris Craft, Member of the Board, Sales, Marketing and Aftersales at Bentley Motors.
“While production of the Mulsanne will end in Spring 2020, this decision has been taken at a time when we are experiencing significant customer demand across our other existing model lines. As such, we will be redeploying all of our manufacturing colleagues who currently work on the Mulsanne to other areas of the business.”
Created by Mulliner, Bentley’s in-house bespoke and customisation division, 6.75 Edition production will be based on the current Mulsanne Speed and limited to 30 units. The Mulsanne Speed is what Bentley calls “the most driver-focussed ultra luxury sedan ever created” and produces 395kW and 1100Nm from its V8 engine.
Externally, 6.75 Edition features include gloss black brightwork and dark tint treatments on the bonnet emblem, grille and exhaust tips. The Mulsanne Speed’s standard 21-inch wheels add a machined finish, while each purchaser will be able to choose their own paint colour.
A black engine intake manifold and signed engine number plaque feature under the bonnet, with references to the outgoing 6 ¾-litre V8 (which has been in production for 60 years) featuring on an exterior badge, as well as the seats and ventilation controls, while the faces of the dash clock and minor gauges will feature cutaway drawings of the engine. The 6.75 Edition logo will also be projected by the puddle lamps.
Customers will be able to choose from four different hides for the seat upholstery, with silver piping detail that’s picked up through other silver accents in the cabin.
Pricing for the Mulsanne 6.75 Edition has not been revealed, but like most Bentley special editions, the entire 30-unit quota is likely to be already accounted for.
Once the final Mulsannes are built (likely before the middle of 2020), the Flying Spur will take over the Mulsanne’s role as Bentley’s flagship model.
