Binalong museum auction rescheduled
Conducted by Donington Auctions, the auction was originally to take place on 3 May, but restrictions on public gatherings and interstate travel have forced the date change.
Now to be held on 26 July, the auction includes the same consignments originally offered, and on-site bidding at the museum will still be permitted, subject to the latest government guidelines. However, Donington Auctions advise all potential bidders to register for absentee, online and phone bidding (the auction will be live streamed) to avoid being caught out by changes affecting live on-site bidding.
Located near Yass in rural NSW, the Binalong Motor Museum was a popular destination for car and motorcycle enthusiasts of all persuasions for 30 years before its closure this April and even attracted visitors from overseas. Cars and bikes from the personal collections of museum founders Stuart Sanders and John Fitzpatrick formed the bulk of the display vehicles, most of which were in running condition.
The headline lot for the rescheduled auction remains the 1972 Ferrari 365GTC/4 which Sanders has owned since 1974. One of only 42 RHD examples, the 365GTC/4 is finished in Grigio Argento (dark silver) paint with dark blue leather trim and carries a $500,000-$550,000 estimate.
A C1997 Ferrari 550 Maranello is also consigned, along with a variety of English classics, including a 1934 Armstrong-Siddeley tourer ($18,000-$22,000), 1961 Jaguar Mk2 3.8 saloon ($33,000-$39,000), 1990 Jaguar XJ-S V12 ($17,000-$21,000), 1966 Daimler Majestic Major originally used by the Romanian Embassy in London ($31,000-$34,000) and a 1971 Austin FX4 ‘London black cab’ ($10,000-$15,000).
There’s also a 1947 Citröen Traction Avant Light Fifteen ($,000-$10,000) and 1973 Fiat 500 ($11,000-$15,000), plus a recreation of the 1963 Indy 500-winning Watson ‘Agajanian Willard Battery Special’ and the 1996 ‘Julien and Boyer Matra-Honda’ land speed record car for something different.
Outside of the museum collection but included in the auction is a 1913 Straker-Squire 15hp tourer and an Australian-delivered 1925 Bentley 3-Litre saloon, rebodied in the style of a Vanden Plas tourer.
