First… and Foremost
Rolling out of GM-H’s Dandenong plant in September, 1977, this LX Torana SL/R 5000 sedan was the first built to A9X spec that homologated Holden’s racing upgrades – stronger diff, revised suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, etc. - for the ATCC and Bathurst 1000. With the A9X, Holden would dominate the 1978 and 1979 racing seasons, winning the championship and Bathurst each year, capped by Brock’s dominant six-lap victory at Mount Panorama in ’79.
Across SS hatchback and SL/R 5000 sedan bodies, just 500 A9Xs were built - and this car was the first.

First Class Resto
Originally serving as a Holden press car, this A9X was fully restored in the early 2000s, with a repaint in its original Palais White (with A9X black paint outs) and a set of 14-inch ROH Hotwire mags fitted. A period-correct 308ci V8, M21 4-speed manual and Salisbury diff make up the drivetrain.
Inside, most of the original trim was good enough to be retained, with only new carpets and a partial retrim of the driver’s seat required.

Record Setter
A two-time record-setter for the highest price achieved by an A9X sedan at auction, this Torana still looks resto-fresh. Documentation from Holden, along with an ICAARS report, confirms its provenance, with extensive ownership history, too.
Owning this A9X is a true investment. Most of the 500 are long gone, lost to time, stripped for parts or buried in collections. But this genuine A9X is still here. Still alive. Still Number 1.

For your chance to win the #1 A9X Holden Torana, go to classicsforacause.com.au, purchase your preferred membership package and you’re in the draw. This giveaway closes on Friday, 8 August at 6:00PM AEST.
