Dodge offers approved Challenger convertibles
Dodge doesn’t produce the Challenger muscle car as a factory convertible, but they do approve third-party convertible conversions by Drop Top Customs and have recently made the process for ordering such conversions easier.
Announced on 15 August and applicable to the North American market only, the new procedure will allow customers to order a Challenger convertible directly from a Dodge dealership.
Once an order is placed, the completed vehicle is shipped direct from Dodge’s Brampton assembly plant in Canada to Drop Top Customs in Florida, with the expedited transportation process shortening build-to-delivery wait times.
“Those who want a convertible Challenger can get one faster, expedited from the factory to Drop Top Customs,” said Tim Kuniskis, Dodge brand chief executive officer - Stellantis.
“Owners can order third-party modifications through our Dodge dealerships, and then pick up their finished convertible at the dealer once the vehicle is complete.”
While the original Challenger was offered as a factory convertible for two model years (1970 and 1971), the modern Challenger that debuted in 2008 has only been available as a coupe.
The expedited transportation process is available for conversions of the Challenger R/T, R/T Scat Pack and SRT variants for the remainder of MY22 production, and will extend into 2023, when the last internal combustion engine Challengers will be built.
Drop Top Customs has 46 years’ experience in the field, with their conversion of the Challenger including body reinforcements to reduce flexing, while the hydraulically-operated top they design and manufacture features sound and temperature insulation, as well as a heated glass rear window, for passenger comfort.
In the US, a Drop Top Customs Challenger conversion under the new process adds US$25,999 to the retail price, with final pricing negotiated and confirmed with the ordering dealer.
