E-Type Jags star in Shannons Melbourne Auction
The top individual result at the Melbourne auction was the $142,000 paid for a beautifully presented RHD Series 1, 4.2 E-Type coupe, but the red S1 was pushed hard for bragging rights by another Series 1.
A restored 1966 4.2-litre 2+2 coupe, finished in dark blue, sold for $136,000 - almost twice its pre-auction estimate and against a No Reserve listing.
A circa-1964 Jaguar Mk2 3.8 manual saloon featuring a number of mechanical upgrades sold for an outstanding $69,000, with a beautiful British Racing Green 1948 Jaguar Mk IV 3.5 saloon fetching $64,000; another strong result for a vehicle offered at No Reserve.
Rounding off a great night for Jaguars, a No Reserve 1951 Mk V saloon brought $28,000.
From the other side of the English Channel, a rare LHD 'Hoffmann' convertible variation of the classic Citroen 2CV - one of just three known in Australia - sold for $29,000, with a beautiful Australian-delivered 1970-model Citroen DS21, fitted with the model's optional five-speed manual gearbox, making $24,000.
The pre-auction star, a genuine 1971 Ford XY Falcon GT-HO Phase III that was expected to reach around the $400,000 mark failed to meet its reserve on the night, but sold for an undisclosed sum afterward. In all, 91 per cent of the consigned vehicles sold for a solid $2 million-plus overall result.
