Ferrari 308 GTSi, JWF Milano to be auctioned
The ‘Hinton Automotive Collection’ comprises the lifetime collection of Mark Hinton, a Queensland-based racer, along with vehicles from his brother, Edward.
While motorcycles were Mark’s passion and bikes make up the bulk of the vehicles in the upcoming auction, his passion for cars ran just as deep and is represented by two very different, but perhaps equally desirable cars.
A development of the Milano kit car developed by NSW-based JWF Fibreglass in 1959, the Milano GT, introduced in 1962, was designed to take Holden six-cylinder engines and bespoke chassis.
Hinton purchased his Milano GT in 1992 and raced it at a multitude of venues and circuits before having it rebuilt to enjoy it on the road, with the chassis done by the late John Wynn and the engine by Russell Jones.
Five years in the making, Hinton’s Milano GT is one of a handful of road-registered Milano GTs in existence today and will be auctioned with a $68,000-75,000 guiding range.
From a Ferrari-inspired car, Hinton next bought an actual Ferrari in the form of a 1983/84 308 GTSi.
Introduced in 1980 and defined by the adoption of Bosch fuel injection (hence the ‘i’) for the mid-mounted 3.0lt V8 engine, the 308 GTSi is a modern classic, helped in no small measure by its appearance in TV show, Magnum PI. Hinton’s example runs later wheels and presents in outstanding condition overall. Pre-auction estimate is $110,000-120,000.
The auction will also feature two Jaguar E-Types: a 1966 Series 1 4.2 roadster; and a 1971 Series 2 4.2 coupe. The low (89,000) mile ’66 E-Type carries a $210,000-230,000 guiding range, while the ’71 car is estimated to sell in the $85,000-90,000 range.
The Hinton Automotive Collection auction will be conducted online by Donington Auctions on 22 November, 2020. For bidding registration and more details, go to: doningtonauctions.com.au
