Ferrari unveil 'Sergio' limited edition
Named in honour of Sergio Pininfarina, the former boss of the Italian Carozzeria which has styled many of Ferraris most famous road cars, the new roadster made its debut at the Finali Mondiali Ferrari event, staged at the Ferrari World theme park. Only six copies of the Sergio will be built, with the first delivered to a UAE dealership last week.
Released to mark the 60th anniversary of Pininfarina's collaboration with the Prancing Horse this year, the limited edition Sergio differs little from the concept. Based on the 458 Spider and powered by the latest 451kW (605hp) version of Ferrari's naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8, the Sergio is claimed to be capable of 0-100 km/h in just 3 seconds.
With styling that reflects the spirit of Pininfarina's 1960s and 70s creations for Ferrari, the Sergio features a very sculptural treatment of the front and rear ends, with both halves of the roadster's bodyshell separated by a longitudinal black insert, the main styling cue of the design. The headlights are linked to appear as if one continuous unit, while the tail lights are more traditionally Ferrari in their appearance.
Other features include a semi-floating front spoiler, flying buttress pillars with air intakes for clutch and gearbox oil cooling integrated into the roll-bars, and a downforce-generating rear nolder and extractor. Wheels are specific to the Sergio, too, with the first example delivered featuring a gold and diamond finish.
Inside, the sporty cockpit is trimmed in black leather with contrasting red stitching, Alcantara seat inserts, and extensive use of carbon fibre. All six Sergios already have buyers, with each one individually-configured by its owner at Ferrari's 'Tailor Made' atelier in Maranello. Price hasn't been revealed, but each example is rumoured to cost at least AU$1 million.
