Ford reveal next-gen Falcon XR8
The latest - and last - Australian-made Falcon features a noticeably different front end, with a grille that's in line with Ford's "global DNA", ie. it looks like a current generation Ford Fusion sedan (the American version of the Mondeo).
Those DNA features include a signature trapezoidal grille, chiselled head lamp treatment and smoother, wrap-around tail-lights. On top of this, the XR8 features strong exterior graphics with a sportier front end design, four headlight treatment (that dips slightly into the front bumper, as per past XRs), daytime running lights and bonnet 'power dome' in the style of the next-gen Mustang.
"The Falcon is acknowledged as being one of the most iconic Australian sedans available, but the 2014 Falcon pushes this theme further forward. Our customers will easily identify the new Falcon by its premium look," said Nima Nourian, Exterior Design Manager for the new Falcon.
On the XR models, the new sculpted boot lid has an integrated rear spoiler, while a bespoke lower diffuser on the XR8 houses the quad exhaust tips.
With the XR8 marking the return of a V8 engine, the Falcon will be the only Australian-made large sedan that comes with a choice of three petrol engines: EcoBoost four, in-line six or V8.
"We're very excited by the return of the XR8, as this badge has not been seen on a Falcon since 2010," Ford President and CEO, Bob Graziano, said. "Our enthusiasts have been asking for it so we've purposely revealed the Falcon XR6 and XR8 first.
"Quite simply, we think this is the best Falcon ever. I just couldn't be more pleased with what the talented local team's been able to accomplish, I'm really proud of them."
Ford pointed out that the 2014 Falcon and Territory program was made possible with a $34 million Federal Government co-investment, as well as co-investment provided by the Victorian Government.
Pricing, features and specifications of the 2014 Falcon will be revealed closer to launch, which is expected to be the start of December.
