Ford reveals model code for last Falcon
Ford says the 'X' designation (when many were expecting an 'FH' model code for the last Falcon) was chosen as an homage to the earliest Falcons, starting with the XK of 1960, and continuing on to the XF of the late 1980s. The 'FG' also pays tribute to Fords of the past, specifically the Fairmont and Ghia luxury versions.
The performance XR8 and XR6 versions of the FG X models have already been revealed, as has the G6E. The base model Falcon is expected to follow shortly, with full specs, features and pricing to be revealed closer to the official December launch for the final Falcon.
"As one of the country's most recognised nameplates, Ford wanted to make sure this celebration Falcon was worthy of the FG X name," said Ford Australia President and CEO, Bob Graziano.
"Our Falcon customers know our story, so it is appropriate we acknowledge for them, enthusiasts and all Australians that Falcon is a significant part of the fabric of the Australian cultural landscape," Graziano added, perhaps missing the irony of the fact that in little more than a couple of years' time, the Falcon will no longer be a part of the 'cultural landscape.'
