GreazeFest is back for 2015
Organisers are encouraging entries from owners of pre-1970 American and Australian cars, utes, vans and wagons, as well as hot rods, rat rods, lead sleds, muscle cars, customs and even lowrider custom bicycles.
A highlight at each jam-packed GreazeFest festival, the Hot Rod Show will feature hundreds of eye-catching dream machines, which are sure to elicit awe and envy from the 10,000-strong crowd expected in each state.
Attendees will be treated to a huge selection of popular vintage and customised cars, ranging from 1930s Flathead Fords and Chevrolet coupes, to the dawning of Australian-made motor vehicles with the FX and FJ Holdens, plus many American models from the classic era, including the standout Tri-Five Chev series of 1955/56/57, Cadillacs, Oldsmobiles, Buicks and Pontiacs. Mercurys, Lincoln and classics from the Chrysler stable are also expected amongst the automotive Americana on display, and not forgetting vintage Aussie Falcons and Fairlanes, either.
Lori Lee Cash, GreazeFest event organiser, head of Robot Productions, and driver of a 1967 Dodge Phoenix, said although the cut-off point is 1970, the brief for the GreazeFest Hot Rod Show is broad and always results in a huge collection of vehicles that are exceedingly popular.
"The Hot Rod show is definitely one of the more eye-candy elements of GreazeFest and is always inspiring," Cash said.
"It's a really amazing site when you see all the car owners and enthusiasts coming in 'en masse' and the atmosphere is exciting and infectious.
"It's a great opportunity to really show off your pride and joy as well as share with other classic car owners and the general public - everyone loves a hot rod," she added.
Marking its 16th year in 2015, GreazeFest highlights the key elements of Kustom Kulture, with live rockabilly bands, DJs, market stalls, artist displays, fashion parades, pin up parades, tiki carving, pinstripers, workshops, auto traders, and a skateboard art competition, in addition to the most dazzling array of hot rods ever seen in one place.
More than 500 cars are tipped to be displayed at GreazeFest Brisbane on August 1 and 2 (at Rocklea Showground), with GreazeFest Melbourne, held the following weekend on August 8 and 9 at Sandown Racecourse, expecting the same numbers.
Entering the Hot Rod Show is free with purchase of a ticket to GreazeFest and registration of vehicles with a special Show Entrant ticket ensures going in the running for a GreazeFest trophy.
The distinctive GreazeFest trophies are hand-made, customised stainless steel crowns and are sure to be much desired within the hot rod community.
While the live rockabilly music will kick-on into the evening each day, the trophy presentations for winning Hot Rod Show cars will be held at 3.30 pm on the Sunday of each show - August 2 in Brisbane and August 9 in Melbourne.
