Horses, Bulls, Snakes and Cats at JUST CARS & COFFEE Brisbane
A real menagerie of motors gathered at Café Elle in Geebung for the June instalment of JUST CARS & COFFEE Brisbane. Under a crisp, clear morning sky, enthusiasts spotted examples of the leaping cat (Jaguar), raging bull (Lamborghini), cobra (XC Falcon), beetle (VW), impala (Chevy) and both kinds of horse – galloping (Mustang) and prancing (Ferrari).

The morning also brought out some new beasts not seen at previous editions of this monthly car meet, including kei cars and trucks, new and old Corvettes, a mildly tweaked ’71 Chevelle and heavily tweaked HK Holden ute. There was also a GT40 replica on show, equally bold HSV GTO Coupe, a custom Chevy pickup, some tidy BMWs and a rare ’63 Plymouth Valiant convertible, to name a few.

The JDM crowd were out in force again, with Nissan, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Lexus and Toyota all representing. However, the undoubted highlight was an Autozam AZ-1. Mazda’s piccolo take on the Mercedes 300SLR Gullwing, the AZ-1 was sold under their Autozam sub-brand in the early 1990s. Only offered in the Japanese market, a few have found their way to Australia, but they remain a very rare sight here, with the example at Café Elle attracting plenty of attention.
Attracting almost as much attention were the two kei trucks, particularly the Honda Acty with its slammed stance, wide alloys and an extensive bodykit.

Odd-bods and rarities from the day included an Alfa Romeo 75 Evoluzione with its oh-so-80s styling, a nicely restored Austin 7, and a Jaguar XJ6 that looked like it was set-up for tarmac rallying with its race-spec interior. A 1936 Ford coupe had some tasteful custom touches to accent its rich cream paint, while you could argue the ‘woody’ treatment of a VF Valiant Safari wagon wasn’t tasteful!

There was also a VH Commodore SS wagon that caused plenty of double takes. A “one that never was” (the SS was only offered as a sedan), this unit was also in exceptionally clean condition, with an eat-your-dinner-off-it engine bay.

Diecast Diehards were back to tempt kids young and old with some of their latest stock of scale model cars, while those looking to add a full-size car to their collection were eyeing the ’62 Corvette ‘fuelie’ presented by BGS Classic Cars.
There were a few private cars for sale, too, showing how JUST CARS & COFFEE Brisbane has become a popular supplement to advertising with JUST CARS – in the magazine and online - in order to reach enthusiast buyers.

Held on the last Saturday of each month, JUST CARS & COFFEE Brisbane welcomes all classic, custom and collectable cars. The event is sponsored by The Plate Bracket Co., Diecast Diehards, Just Pro Tools, Avantgarde Financial Brokerage P/L and BGS Classic Cars.
