HSV release Camaro pricing
Available in one grade – a ‘2SS’ coupe with a 6.2lt V8 and 8-spd auto transmission – the Camaros converted and prepared by HSV will be priced from $85,990.
On list pricing, that makes the Camaro more than $23,000 dearer than a comparable MY18 Mustang GT V8 fastback, over $12,000 more than the upcoming GT V8-based Bullitt fastback coupe and even $11,200 above the most expensive Mustang; the $74,709 GT V8 convertible.
“This project has been over three years in the making and involved millions of dollars of investment in product development, testing and validation,” said HSV Managing Director, Tim Jackson.
“We set out with the goal of retaining the integrity of the left-hand-drive vehicle through the adoption of extensive engineering, development, and manufacturing processes. We are proud to say we believe we have achieved our goal.”
Specification of Australian-delivered Camaros starts with a 6.2-litre ‘Generation V’ LT1 V8, matched to an 8-speed, paddle-shift auto transmission, with outputs listed at up to 339kW and 617Nm.
Independent rear suspension, Brembo performance brakes, 20-inch alloys, a rear stanchion spoiler, power sunroof, dual-outlet exhaust, HID headlamps are other features.
Inside, the Camaro 2SS premium interior (a step above the ‘1SS’ grade in the US) includes heated and ventilated leather-trimmed front sports seats, a heated leather sports steering wheel, dual zone automatic climate control, a 9-speaker Bose premium audio, a customisable 8-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging and 24-colour ambient spectrum lighting.
Driver Mode Control offers Tour, Sport, Snow/Ice and Track modes that adjust throttle response, transmission shift times and driver assistance intervention. Only 550 “first year” (ie. 2018) units will be produced for Australia and New Zealand, with HSV stating they’re the first Australian company to produce Camaros with full volume compliance.
