Hyundai announces sport coupe concept
The ninth concept model developed by Hyundai Motor Group's R&D Centre in Namyang, Korea, the HND-9 is tipped to preview styling for the next generation Hyundai Genesis. Styling features include a dramatic long bonnet and wheelbase, as well as unlikely-to-reach-production butterfly doors, with the finished styling reflecting "a modern interpretation of a classic premium sports coupe."
Sleek character lines stretch from headlamp to boot, giving the HND-9 a "voluminous, powerful car body." The concept continues Hyundai's recent design trends in the form of the wide hexagonal-shaped radiator grille.
Other design features include spiral-shaped lines connected to the headlamps, satin silver finish paint, dual twin muffler and uniquely-designed head and rear lamps that give the car what Hyundai call "a sleek futuristic look."
Despite being a concept, Hyundai have provided powerplant details for the HND-9 - a 3.3-litre turbo GDi engine and 8-speed auto transmission, delivering a maximum output of 270 kW.
The HND-9 is set to make its world debut on March 28 at the 2013 Seoul Motor Show. More details of the concept's design and its technologies will be revealed at the show.
The next generation Genesis coupe, which will draw on technical and stylistic elements from the HND-9, has been confirmed for the Australian market but a release date and additional details have yet to be announced.
