Jaguar C-X75 concept revisited
When it was originally unveiled in 2010, the C-X75 was bristling with new technologies. Featuring a carbon fibre composite monocoque shell and all-wheel drive, the C-X75 was powered by a pair of electric motors, boosted by a turbocharged and supercharged 4-cylinder 1.6-litre petrol engine (twin gas turbines were originally planned).
Claimed performance from the combined powerplants is 850bhp (502bhp petrol, 390bhp electric), sub-six second 0-100kph time, and a top speed of over 350kph (220 mph).
Back then, the C-X75 was tipped to become a limited-production reality, primarily as a challenger to Porsche's 918 hybrid supercar. Ultimately, the plan to bring the car to production was abandoned late last year, but the five prototypes built still exist, and have been subtly tweaked since their debut three years ago.
In June, when the prototypes were released to selected media outlets for testing, Jaguar said that while the C-X75 will never become a production reality, a number of the technologies tested and developed on the hybrid supercar will be applied to future production vehicles.
Jaguar have also released a behind-the-scenes video on the C-X75's development 'C-X75 - a hybrid supercar prototype without equal'. The film features contributions from the car's lead programme engineers and reveals the challenges overcome in developing a vehicle with a 220mph top speed but that is also capable of producing less than 89g of CO2 per kilometre and can even run with zero emissions for up to 60km.
The C-X75 was one of a number of high-performance vehicles to take part in the 'Michelin Supercar Run' up the Goodwood hillclimb course.
