Lamborghini produce Centenario roadster
Described as a "a true illustration of Lamborghini's commitment to advance automotive design to new, inspirational heights", the new roadster features the same carbon fibre monocoque body, most of the same carbon fibre body panels and the same running gear as the Centenario coupe.
That means a naturally-aspirated V12 engine putting out 770hp (566kW) and 690Nm, with the same top speed of 350km/h, but reaching 100km/h takes a little longer: 2.9 seconds on the roadster compared to 2.8 with the coupe.
The roadster's enhanced aerodynamic design includes a movable rear wing (that extends to 150mm and rotates up to 15 degrees) for more downforce at high speeds, aided by rear-wheel steering for increased agility and stability.
The special silver exterior finish is called "Argento Centenario" and was created exclusively for the limited-edition roadster. According to Lamborghini, this special matte-finish shade accentuates the roadster's curvaceous profile!
Inside, the Centenario Roadster features a new, fully connected touchscreen infotainment system that includes internet browsing and Apple CarPlay.
To achieve maximum comfort for the roadster's interior, advanced aerodynamic studies were conducted, which resulted in additions like a channel in the rear wall and at the back of the headrests that smooths airflow from the cabin to the engine area and minimizes turbulence. Additionally, this improved airflow enhances the performance of the rear wing, adding additional aero load for increased downforce.
Similarly, the front windscreen was re-shaped to reduce turbulence in the cabin, deflecting air around and above the occupants' heads without interrupting the level of in-cabin ventilation.
"The Centenario Roadster embraces the cutting edge characteristics of its coupé sibling and embraces the freedom of a true open-top super sports car for a pure drive experience," said Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.
If you'd like to add one to your garage, you're too late! Despite a price tag of 2 million Euros (AU$2.94million approx.), all 20 Centenario roadsters sold before their Monterey debut.
