Local pricing revealed for Corvette Z06
Ahead of its Australian arrival later this year, pricing and further details for the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 have been announced, with the upcoming addition to the GM Specialty Vehicles lineup to be the priciest and most exclusive offering yet.
Currently, the C8 Corvette Stingray 3LT convertible is the most expensive version of the mid-engined American sportscar available in Australia, priced from $190,000 plus ORCs (a $10K premium over the similar spec coupe), but the Corvette Z06 will exceed that by more than $100,000.
Z06 exclusives
Defining the Z06 against the “regular” Corvette Stingray is its 5.5-litre LT6 V8 instead of the 6.2-litre LT2 V8. While both engines are naturally aspirated, the LT6 features a flat-plane crankshaft that allows it to rev higher - 8,600rpm, instead of 6,500rpm. Despite its smaller capacity, the LT6 produces more power than the LT2, with listed maximums of 475kW and 595Nm, compared to 369kW and 637Nm from the LT2.
Like the Stingray, the Z06 uses an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and while the final drive ratio is shorter at 5.56:1, other gearing is believed to be unchanged.
Suspension tuning is specific to the Z06, with adjustable Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 dampers as standard.
Brake discs are larger, at 370mm front and 380mm rear, with six-piston front calipers compared to four-piston calipers on the Stingray. The Z06 also gets a larger wheel package – the largest ever fitted to a production Corvette – consisting of 20-inch front and 21-inch rear ‘Spider’ forged alloys.
To further exploit the Z06’s capabilities, an optional Z07 package includes carbon ceramic brakes, carbon fibre wheels, high-performance tyres and unique suspension tuning, plus a front splitter, front dive planes and rear wing. The aero elements deliver up to 1.22g of downforce.
Australian and New Zealand supply of the Corvette Z06 will be exclusively in coupe form (no convertibles) and only with the top 3LZ interior trim. That means GT2 bucket seats with Nappa leather upholstery and carbon fibre garnish, leather-wrapped doorcards and instrument panel, sueded microfibre on the upper interior trim, carbon fibre shift paddles and carbon fibre accents on the steering wheel.
Aus/NZ supply of the Z06, will also be limited.
“Due to incredible global demand, the Corvette Z06 is a measured volume proposition. In keeping with its exclusive nature, availability will be very controlled,” said Greg Rowe, Director of GMSV.
“We appreciate this may disappoint many performance enthusiasts, but at the same time it will ensure those who do become a Z06 owner will know they possess a very special piece of automotive folklore.”
Australian pricing for the 2024 Corvette Z06 is $336,000, which includes GST and LCT, but no other on-road costs. NZ pricing is NZ$346,000 + ORCs.
Timeframe for local delivery has not been updated beyond the “later this year” information previously announced.
2024 Corvette Stingray
Along with the first-time availability of the Corvette Z06, local Corvette fans will get an updated Stingray for 2024. Coupe and convertible, along with 2LT and 3LT trim options, carry over for the coming year, but all Aus/NZ units gain a new Z51 rear spoiler design, and two new wheel finishes - Satin Graphite with Machined Edge or Bright Machined.
Three new colour options for 2024 are Cacti Green, Riptide Blue and Sea Wolf Grey, with Carbon Flash a regular colour on all Stingray coupe and convertible models. The Carbon Flash stripe design is now wider and comes with five new colour options: Silver, Red, Blue, Yellow and Orange.
Inside, new Driver Mode Selector animations are added to the driver-oriented info screen, while the Corvette's frunk’ (front trunk) gains a power soft close latch.
A new engine appearance package is optional for the Stingray convertible and a lighting option is reinstated for the 2LT. Lighting option and carbon fibre close out panels will be available on the 3LT.
New safety features include Forward Collision Alert with Low-Speed AEB, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Indicator, Front Pedestrian Braking and ‘Intellibeam’ Auto High Beam Assist
Orders for the MY24 C8 Corvette Stingray open in Q4, with a $5,000 increase in RRP applying across the range. That should translate to Australian starting prices of $165,000 (2LT) and $185,000 (3LT) for the Stingray coupe, and $180,000 (2LT) and $195,000 (3LT) for the Stingray convertible before LCT and other on-road costs.
