Local pricing, specs confirmed for new NSX
Australian Pricing
The new NSX will carry an RRP of $420,000, with Australian-delivered examples coming standard with almost all the options boxes ticked.
Available in a range of eight exterior colours and four interior trims, three optional metallic paint finishes carry a $1,500 premium, with two premium colours, including the hero Valencia Red Pearl, available for an additional $10,000. These top-dollar optional colours feature what Honda calls 'Andaro aerospace technology'; a special-effect pigment from PPG that's designed to add high reflectivity and vibrant colour to aircraft components (Virgin use it on their planes).
Powertrain
The new NSX is powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6, augmented by a direct drive motor that provides instant torque response, and two electric motors for a combined maximum power output of 427kW and 646Nm of torque. The V6 drives the rear wheels, with the electric motors powering each front wheel via a new Sport Hybrid Super Handling All Wheel Drive (Sport Hybrid SH-AWD) system that Honda are claiming as a first-of-its-kind in the supercar arena.
A nine-speed dual-clutch transmission with paddle shift controls is standard, with four different driver-selectable modes - Quiet, Sport, Sport Plus and Track - that are designed to make the NSX as usable on a suburban street as it is on a racetrack.
NSX History
The original Honda NSX found just 133 local buyers in its 13 years on the Australian market, but Collins expects the new model to surpass that total, while still remaining exclusive.
"Already, some Australian customers have been in contact with dealers and paid deposits," Collins said. "Many have read the positive reports about the Honda NSX in overseas publications and were prepared to put money down, without even driving it."
