Long-lost Corvette to be auctioned
When a long dormant shipping container on the Brisbane wharf was opened recently, inspectors were surprised to find a classic Corvette convertible inside. Closer examination revealed that the car was not only an early production example of the 'C3' third generation Corvette Stingray, but also that the car had been reported stolen ten years ago!
It's believed the car sat undisturbed in the container since the theft. The 'Vette has suffered the usual wear from long-term storage, but appears to be in very good overall condition.
Described by Manheim as being fitted with a 5.4lt V8 (327ci) and 4-speed manual transmission, the Corvette features an L88-style bonnet and mis-matched Yokohama tyres. The build date of Dec 26, 1967, makes the Polar White Corvette one of the early production C3 Stingrays.
Ripe for restoration, and with only 77,000kms on the clock according to Manheim, the Corvette is to be auctioned on behalf of Suncorp Insurance this coming September 25, at Manheim's Brisbane facility.
The manheim.com.au online catalogue has more details on this vehicle ahead of the auction, which will kick off from 9:00AM. See the website for further details and how to bid online.
